Very unique one page letter 8to to a Mrs. A.H.M. from General Beauregard. Signed with his script only. He is apologizing for not being able to met a lady. Obviously this letter was never destroyed. Private and confidential Friday Dear Madam, Your letter has decided me not to call on M------ at her home for fear that your (presentiment) might prove true. I mean as to public slander- but I cannot in justice to the lady & to myself refuse to call upon her here before she leaves. In French: ÓTo the pure all things are pureÓ signed: Yours very truly then his postscript only. At the bottom ÒN.B. Please destroy this letterÓ then another postscript.
