135 Henry Lee

135 Henry Lee.jpg

Wonderful one page letter written and signed by Light Horse Harry Lee, the father of General Robert E. Lee. The letter is written from Richmond Va. and dated Nov. 25, 1793. It deals with the uniforms of the ÒL. InfantryÓ Òtheir uniform requires no amendmentÉ.it will be expected that they will adopt the State uniform..Ó It is written to John Minor, Esq. Fredericksburg. Condition is that of a letter that is 200+ years old. There is evidence of an old mounting on all four corners on the reverse side of the letter as well as some old repairs. None of this can be seen from the front side of the letter. There is some minor paper loss across the top of the letter. There is also a small paper separation along the bottom fold. Several small stains and a large pin hole are in the center of this letter. These do not effect the overall visual appeal of a magnificent 200 year old letter. This letter will require some special careful handling as any 200 year old letter will, but once framed will be a nice addition to any collection. The year 1793 is penciled in by someone else. I do not know if this is a result of some research, fact, or lucky guess. The date does line up with Henry LeeÕs life and public service.
