125 MaryLee

Mary Custis Lee, Very rare letter written by Mary C. Lee, the daughter of CSA General R. E. Lee. Great four page letter. The date is Nov.22nd. No year. She was a very sloppy writer. First page: "Dear Mr. Balfour: Will you allow me to send you a life of my father, just out, and written by his nephew, a very young and gallant cavalry soldier during the war, and fighting always almost under the eye of his uncle...." etc, etc. Too lengthy to transcript. My guess is that this letter was written after the death of her father and the nephew is Fitzhugh Lee. This is a wonderful letter for someone who is collecting the family of R. E. Lee. It is fairly easy to find letters, photos, or signatures from the sons of Gen Lee and Mrs. Lee but this is the first letter from their daughter I have ever seen.
