Three Dollar note ($3.00) issued by the New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Rail Road Company from New Orleans, Louisiana. Dated November 16, 1861 and serial no. 6898 serial letter A. Engraved by Douglass Engraving of New Orleans. A fairly rare note in any condition. An impressive train steams along in the central vignette of this railroad scrip. This note is printed on plain paper. The antebellum goal of this railroad was to connect the Gulf Coast with the Midwest. When the Civil War started, its tracks ran from New Orleans to Canton, Mississippi. The task of rebuilding the railroad after the war fell upon the shoulders of former Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard, who became its president. There is no Criswell number. Plain back. This is a note in Fine condition and very problem free.
